Saint Lucy, a 3rd-century martyr and one of the most venerated saints in Christianity, is known for her strong faith and courage in the face of persecution. Born in Syracuse, Sicily, Lucy dedicated her life to God and vowed to remain a virgin. After refusing to marry a Roman suitor who persecuted Christians, she was denounced, arrested, and martyred for her beliefs. She is often depicted holding a lamp or with her eyes in a dish, as one legend suggests her eyes were gouged out before her death, though they were later miraculously restored. Saint Lucy is the patron saint of the blind and those with eye ailments, and her feast day, celebrated on December 13th, is a time of prayer for light and healing.
