Saint Augustine of Hippo was a 4th and 5th-century Christian theologian and philosopher, widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in Western Christianity. Born in 354 AD in North Africa, he lived a life of indulgence before his conversion to Christianity. Augustine’s writings, including his famous works Confessions and The City of God, have deeply shaped Christian doctrine, particularly on topics such as grace, original sin, and the nature of the Church. He was ordained a priest and later became the Bishop of Hippo. His insights on faith, reason, and the relationship between God and humanity continue to inspire Christians today. Saint Augustine’s feast day is celebrated on August 28th.
