St. Teresa of Ávila, also known as St. Teresa of Jesus, was a Spanish Carmelite nun, mystic, writer, and prominent figure in the Catholic Reformation. Born in 1515, she dedicated her life to spiritual pursuits and reform within the Carmelite order. Renowned for her mystical experiences and profound writings on prayer and spiritual life, she played a significant role in revitalizing the contemplative life within the Church. St. Teresa advocated for a more strict observance of religious life, founding several reformed Carmelite convents that emphasized a life of simplicity, prayer, and detachment from worldly matters.

Her most famous work, "The Interior Castle," explores the journey of the soul towards union with God through seven metaphorical mansions. St. Teresa's teachings emphasized the importance of mental prayer, contemplation, and seeking a deeper connection with God. Her profound insights into spiritual growth and her role in reforming the Carmelite order have had a lasting impact on Christian spirituality. St. Teresa of Ávila was canonized in 1622 and later declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope Paul VI in 1970. Her feast day is celebrated on October 15th.
